Praying The Bible (On Lectio Divina in Spiritual Life Today

By Friedmann, OSB, Edgar (Author)
$9.95 AUD

The Christians of the first centuries and most of all the monastics believed firmly that God himself had written all the books of the Bible. Hence, Holy Scripture played the very first and most important role in their spiritual life. They did, however, not only read the holy books, but their reading at the same time was prayer.
In this way, Lectio or Lectio Divina came to existence especially in the tradition of early monasticism. The monastics prayed while they were reading Holy Scripture. The holy words inspired them to personal prayer and encounter with God. As we going to know this biblical prayer of the monastics of old, we will also realize that actually we already practice certain basics or parts with our being aware of it. So the following are given the headline: Praying the Bible.
